Why a Syracuse Common Councilor voted no to Symphony Tower renovations by Hotel Syracuse developer

SYRACUSE (WSYR-TV) - The Syracuse Common Council has approved a plan to renovate the Symphony Tower into an extended stay hotel.

Ed Riley, the same developer of the former Hotel Syracuse, will turn the tower into a Hyatt.

The plan comes with tax forgiveness on the property. The developer agreed to hire 20 percent of the workers from the City of Syracuse.

Councilor Nader Maroun was the only vote against the project, saying it wasn't fair to taxpayers and for lack of transparency developing the tax plan.
