Your Stories: How does Excelsior Scholarship work with other aid?

SYRACUSE (WSYR-TV) - One viewer reached out to NewsChannel 9 after not receiving any aid from the Excelsior Scholarship and $11,000 in TAP and Pell grants.

New York State's Excelsior Scholarship is a "last-dollar-in scholarship" only covering the cost of tuition after other grants and scholarships have been applied.

So in the case of the viewer, the student is already receiving aid that covers the full cost of tuition and therefore can't receive additional aid with Excelsior.

The scholarship is only for tuition and also does not cover the additional costs to attend college like room and board and other fees.
