16-year-old charged in Syracuse party stabbing death

A 16-year-old is charged with second degree murder in connection to the stabbing death of a Syracuse high school student at a party over the weekend.
Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – A 16-year-old is charged with second degree murder in connection to the stabbing death of a Syracuse high school student at a party over the weekend.

According to Syracuse Police, Gilberto Rodriguez told them he attacked 17-year-old Charles Pitts Jr. because he was “staring at him” outside of a party at the Clinton Plaza Apartments.

Pitts was taken to the hospital after Rodriguez allegedly stabbed him.

He was pronounced dead at 1:30 a.m.

Syracuse Police Chief Frank Fowler described the boy’s death as a tragedy.

They said Pitts was a Syracuse City School District student who was on track to graduate.

Rodriguez was arraigned on Monday morning.
