SYRACUSE (WSYR-TV) – 31 people have been arrested during another protest outside Hancock Air Base, over the US military's use of drones overseas.
The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office said the charges range from disorderly conduct to obstructing governmental administration and loitering.
According to the official press release:
“Several protestors crossed a military boundary that was in place to keep individuals out of the roadway leading into the air base. The protestors then sat and laid down on the roadway, restricting access to the entrance of the New York Air National Guard Base.”
Many of the unmanned drone missions in countries like Afghanistan are piloted from the Hancock Air Base in Syracuse.
"We want an end to this secret drone war that’s part of what we call an illegitimate, unjust, immoral war on the Muslim people's of the world,” said protestor Debra Sweet.
The protest, which drew about 300 people, was organized by the Upstate Coalition to Ground the Drones and End the Wars, which is made up of various, local peace groups.
