50 families to lose child care subsidies in Madison County due to lack of funding

The Madison County Department of Social Services announced it will have to make cuts to its child care subsidy program due to a lack of federal funding.
Wampsville (WSYR-TV) - The Madison County Department of Social Services announced it will have to make cuts to its child care subsidy program due to a lack of federal funding.

The DDS says the federal benefits will end on Dec. 31 and will affect about 50 of the 130 families currently receiving child care subsidy. About 90 children will be affected according to the DDS.

Funds for child care subsidies have decreased the past three years according to the DDS.

Child care subsidies provide financial assistance to low-income parents who are working, attending school or training.

The DDS says the families that have received assistance the longest will have their cases closed.

Based on the most recent payments, the DDS says families that received child care subsidies beginning before September 2012 will lose their financial assistance.
