ONONDAGA, NY (WSYR-TV) - A Baldwinsville man took Onondaga County Sheriff’s deputies on a car chase through the Town of Onondaga and Camillus, after it was reported that he committed a burglary.

48-year-old John DePalma is now charged with burglary and numerous vehicle and traffic charges.

On Saturday afternoon, deputies responded to 4254 Norton Road in Onondaga for a burglary in progress.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the caller reporting the burglary said he confronted DePalma in his uncle’s home.

As DePalma fled, the caller took down his license plate number and called 911.

An Onondaga County Sheriff’s Deputy spotted DePalma’s vehicle near Velasko Road and attempted to pull him over, but DePalma sped away.

The deputy lost sight of the vehicle near Camillus.

Deputies and Camillus Police officers eventually got behind DePalma’s vehicle at the intersection of West Genesee Street and Scott Ave.

Still driving, DePalma then jumped over parking barriers at Kinney Drugs, which resulted in all four of his tires blowing out.

DePalma attempted to flee on foot but was quickly taken in to custody.

Due to injuries sustained during an altercation with the man who initially called 911, DePalma was taken University Hospital by WAVES ambulance for evaluation.

DePalma will be arraigned in the Town of Onondaga.
