Amazon plans to launch drone delivery service in the near future

Your online purchases could soon be delivered by drones if Amazon’s plans come to fruition.
Syracuse (WSYR-TV/CNN) – Your online purchases could soon be delivered by drones if Amazon’s plans come to fruition.

The online shopping giant hopes to deliver packages to customers’ doorsteps via a service called Prime Air in the near future.

In an interview on 60 Minutes, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos said the drones could be ready in four or five years.

FAA rule changes could make the flights legal as soon as 2015.

The Octocopters Amazon plans to use are currently being tested.

They can only carry packages weighing up to five pounds, but Amazon says 90 percent of its packages weigh less than that.
