Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- The American Heart Association has officially launched its 2013 “Heart Walk” campaign.

Heart Walk volunteers, team captains, heart survivors and corporate donors launched this year’s event at Justin’s Tuscan Grill in East Syracuse Thursday night.

The 29th annual Heart Walk is scheduled for Saturday, April 6 at the SRC Arena at Onondaga Community College.

Thanks to support and research, people like Bob Burns are survivors.

“I had surgery on a Thursday, three weeks after surgery I was walking six miles a day and yesterday, I was downhill skiing, so it’s a great life,” Burns said at Thursday’s kick-off.

NewsChannel 9 is a proud sponsor of the Heart Walk and encourages you to get involved. Registration is now open for the Heart Walk. Particpants and teams can register at www.syracuseheartwalk.org.

This year’s fundraising goal is $500,000.
