Phoenix (WSYR-TV) - Members of American Legion Post 418 in Phoenix were inspired by stories of valor. They've wanted to help soldiers wounded during their military service for a long time, but hadn't pulled together the resources. Their idea took shape Saturday with Music Fest 1. Visitors are asked to donate $5 each. Proceeds from a 50/50 raffle and baked goods will go to the Wounded Warrior Project. The event was scheduled to continue until 7pm Saturday at the Legion's post on Oswego Road in Phoenix. Member Jim DeGolyer said many of the veterans involved with the organization feel honored to offer support to wounded soldiers who served in Iraq and Afghanistan.
"It has certainly inspired a lot of us to volunteer time and effort and money," DeGolyer said.
This is the first year of the Music Fest 1 for Wounded Warriors event. DeGolyer hopes it builds momentum to help soldiers long-term.
