Ammonia leak under control at former Birds Eye plant

The Fulton Fire Department was on the scene of an ammonia leak at the former Birds Eye plant in Fulton. The leak has been stopped.
Fulton, NY (WSYR-TV) - The Fulton Fire Department was sent to ammonia leak at the former Birds Eye Plant.

Officials say the leak has been stopped.  But those who live nearby were still being told to stay inside and keep their windows and doors closed.

The Oswego County Emergency Management says it sent out a reverse telephone notification to nearby residents.  The alert went out to 572 phones telling folks about the leak and to stay indoors.

Officials say there were four workers in the building when they noticed the leak.  A worker called 911.  Officials say one worker was taken to the hospital with a minor injury.

The building is now owned by K & N's foods, USA LLC.

Fire officials are now investigating what caused the leak.
