Benefit for Cicero police officer with cancer

A benefit was held on Sunday to help Cicero Police Officer Wayne Galutz, who was diagnosed with stage-four Esophageal Cancer in January.
CICERO, NY (WSYR-TV) - A benefit was held on Sunday to help Cicero Police Officer Wayne Galutz, who was diagnosed with stage-four Esophageal Cancer in January.

Friends, family and colleagues have rallied behind Galutz since his diagnosis. Some of them spent the last few months organizing a fundraiser at Wysocki’s Lake Park Manor in Cicero.

Some fellow officers recently told us that Galutz’s cancer has spread to his liver and surgery is not an option.

Money raised on Sunday will help pay his medical bills and raise some hope.

"It gives him an opportunity to seek out other opinions and also hopefully participate in experimental medicine studies,” said Galutz’s friend and event co-organizer Renee Epps.

Galutz was not able to attend the fundraiser as he just returned from the Cancer Centers of America in Chicago. Epps said he went there to get a second opinion and other potential treatment options from doctors there.
