Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – People across Central New York are doing all they can to show their support to a Connecticut community that is still reeling after a gunman killed six adults and 20 children in an elementary school.

In Liverpool, one school is going the extra mile to offer hope for students at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Conn., as they cope with the aftermath of the tragic incident.

Throughout the week, students at Chestnut Hill Middle School will pay special tribute to the Newtown community by writing personal notes.

The school hopes to collect more than 300 letters filled with words of comfort and hope for young people in Newtown.

The school will send the letters on Thursday when students will also wear green and white – Sandy Hook’s school colors.
