Cops: Centro bus driver was drunk during 3-vehicle crash

Syracuse Police say a Centro bus operator was driving drunk and tailgating when a three-car accident that occurred downtown on Tuesday afternoon.
Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Syracuse Police say a Centro bus operator was driving drunk and tailgating when a three-car accident that occurred downtown on Tuesday.

Police charged Rasheed Mohammed, 27, of James Street, with DWI and following too closely.

Police initially responded to the three-vehicle accident on South Salina Street around 3:45 p.m. after the bus rear-ended a 2003 Hyundai, pushing it into a 2001 Buick that was stopped at a traffic light on the 400 block.

The Buick’s occupants were taken to the hospital after they complained about back and neck pain.

The Hyundai’s driver complained of knee pain but declined transportation to a hospital.

According to police, the Centro personnel discovered that Mohammed had been drinking when they subjected him to post-accident testing.

After charging him, police released Mohammed on traffic tickets.

He is scheduled to appear in City of Syracuse Traffic Court at a later date.
