Cops: Customers stopped robber at Albany-area convenience store

State Police are crediting customers at a convenience store in Eastern New York for stopping a would-be robber as he tried to flee.
Clifton Park (WSYR-TV) – State Police are crediting customers at a convenience store in Eastern New York for stopping a would-be robber as he tried to flee.

Police say they responded to a reported robbery at a Stewarts location in Rexford around 2:33 p.m.

According to police, 31-year-old Grover Dake of Corinth had entered the store and demanded money, pushing aside one employee who tried to stop him.

Dake then allegedly seized money from the register, but a store manager and customers overpowered him.

Police said Dake had Suboxone in his possession when they arrested him.

They charged him with robbery in the third degree and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree.

He was arraigned in Clifton Park Court and taken to Saratoga County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond.
