Oswego (WSYR-TV) – A man being held in an Oswego County jail on sex charges from Florida is facing new charges after police said he sent sexually explicit letters to a child while in custody.

40-year-old James Ray LaPoint was already in the Oswego County Jail facing grand larceny charges for a February crime committed in the city of Oswego when Sheriff’s Investigators leveled sex charges against him.

On May 31, they arrested LaPoint for endangering the welfare of a child; and on June 13 they arrested him on new charges both in Oswego County and the state of Florida.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, LaPoint was already wanted on a Fugitive from Justice Warrant for sexual battery charges involving a child in Lee County.

They also arrested LaPoint for new child endangering charges when Sheriff’s Deputies say they discovered he was sending the sexually explicit letters to his victim.

He is being held in Oswego County Jail without bail and is scheduled to answer to charges in Oswego City Court on July 9 and Oswego County Court on June 14.
