Cops say inmate smuggled drugs into jail in body cavity

A city of Oneida man sentenced on an attempted assault charge is facing new charges after smuggling drugs into a jail cell, according the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.
Wampsville (WSYR-TV) – A city of Oneida man sentenced on an attempted assault charge is facing new charges after smuggling drugs into a jail cell, according the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.

According to Sheriff’s Deputies, 26-year-old Robert Hartwell IV was caught with Xanax and Hydrocodone hidden in a balloon inside a body cavity.

Hartwell was serving weekends in jail as a result of the attempted assault.

He now faces new charges including tampering with physical evidence, a felony; and promoting prison contraband and possession of a controlled substance, both misdemeanors.

Hartwell is scheduled to return to Oneida City Court on Feb. 15.
