ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) - Police have shot three pit bulls during a drug raid in western New York, killing two of them.

The Rochester Democrat and Chronicle reports that up to seven dogs attacked officers during the raid Tuesday morning that ended with several people in the house facing felony drug charges.

Sgt. Justin Collins said one of the dogs bit an officer's lower leg.

Police counted 18 pit bulls at the house. The injured officer was treated at a hospital.

Records show Rochester police have shot about 80 dogs since 2009, killing 30. More than half were pit bulls and about a third of the shootings happened when officers with search warrants forced their way into properties.
