Rochester (WSYR-TV/13WHAM-TV) – A New Hartford man indicted for murdering his girlfriend in her SUNY Brockport dorm room admitted he committed the crime, according to a jail deputy's statement in a court document.

According to the document, Clayton Whittemore told a Sheriff’s Office jail deputy that an argument escalated until it became physical.

The incident concluded with Whittemore beating 18-year-old Alexandra Kogut to death with a curling iron on Sept. 29.

Whittemore has been charged with second degree murder for the death of Kogut, also of New Hartford.

According to the documents, the deputy said that he heard Whittemore say, “I killed my girlfriend.”

The deputy elaborated that the Utica College student admitted that an argument between the two became increasingly physical.

Before the argument, Whittemore had been ticketed for carrying an open container and it made him “mad.”

In the document, the deputy claims Whittemore said, “She wouldn’t stop pushing me so I started punching her and just snapped.”
