Granby (WSYR-TV) - 35 fire departments responded to a barn fire at Sorbello and Sons farm in Oswego County on Tuesday.

125 firefighters were called to the scene at 628 County Route 8 in the town of Granby at about 4:45 p.m.

Upon arrival, fire crews found heavy smoke and flames coming out of the 10,000 square foot barn, according to Oswego County Fire Coordinator Don Forbes.

Forbes say the barn was filled with onion processing equipment and more than 5,000 crates of onions that were stacked from floor to ceiling. Everything has been destroyed in the fire, according to Forbes.

The fire has been knocked down, but crews are trying to extinguish hot spots to prevent flare-ups.

There were no reported injuries to people or animals on the farm. Forbes says no workers were in the building at the time of the fire, as they had left about an hour before it began.

Crews used 20 tankers to shuttle water to the scene because a hydrant nearby didn't supply enough water to contain the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Forbes indicated that fire crews would be on site until Wednesday morning.
