Cuomo announces $1 million for interrogation recording equipment

Governor Andrew Cuomo announced $1 million in funding is now available for law enforcement agencies to buy equipment needed to record interrogations.
Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Governor Andrew Cuomo announced $1 million in funding is now available for law enforcement agencies to buy equipment needed to record interrogations.

Governor Cuomo announced on Monday the funds are being offered to agencies to purchase and install video recording equipment if they have not yet implemented the practice.

His office says there are only four counties across the state in which agencies have not implemented the practice of using video to record suspect interrogations.

The money will also allow agencies who already record suspect interrogations to upgrade older equipment to ensure it’s functioning properly.

Through the funding, the governor says it will expand the practice and help prevent wrongful convictions while protecting officers from false allegations.
