F-M officials reviewing security after thefts

The Fayetteville-Manlius School District is reviewing its security policies after the reported theft of cell phones, cash, and other items.
Manlius (WSYR-TV) – The Fayetteville-Manlius School District is reviewing its security policies after the reported theft of cell phones, cash, and other items.

One suspect – 21-year-old Celine Danciu – has been taken into custody. Her twin sister – Camile Danciu – is still at large.

The question parents are asking the district is: How did the suspects get into the high school in the first place.

When the students walk into the building in the morning, the doors are unlocked – which presented the suspects with an opportunity, according to officials.

“These suspects blended in just as if they were students so it was very difficult to pick them out from the regular students who were coming into the building,” said F-M Assistant Superintendent Mike Vespi.

The two suspects are former students. Officials say they knew the procedures and protocols of the school and that they knew how to blend in with the students.

Investigators believe the suspects raided the lockers when the students went into gym class during first period.

The suspects allegedly stole iPhones, calculators, and cash before leaving the school.

Because the school is covered in cameras, investigators were able to get a look at the suspects.

Officials said the cameras were critical in helping to identify the suspects.

But they acknowledge that there are always ways to improve security measures – and the district is looking at ways to make certain such thefts do not happen again.

The district says it has increased supervision at all doors when students arrive in the morning.

They also sent a letter home to parents informing them about the thefts and the increased security measures.
