Sullivan (WSYR-TV) -- Five kittens in Madison County are fighting for their life, after someone found them in a plastic bag on the side of the road.

They were found one week ago by someone walking on Gee Road in the Town of Sullivan. The kittens were found in an orange Kinney bag, which is thicker than the typical plastic grocery bag, and it was tied shut.

Town of Sullivan Animal Control Officer Kim Muehlenbein says when she arrived, the kittens were close to death.

“When I first found them, they were soaking wet and all of them were laying on their sides, nobody could lift their heads, they were just…there. There was no reaction at all,” Muehlenbein said.

The kittens have improved since last week, but they won’t be ready for adoption for another few weeks. The person responsible will face animal cruelty charges, if found.

Anyone with information about the kittens is asked to call the Town of Sullivan’s Animal Control office at 687-7308.
