How to apply for NY State flood aid

Sunday was the first day flood victims could apply for assistance from New York State.
ONEIDA (WSYR-TV) - Sunday was the first day flood victims could apply for assistance from New York State.

Those affected by the floods can go to the following locations to apply:

Oneida County - New Hartford Fire Department: 4 Oxford Rd., Town of New Hartford.

Herkimer County - Herkimer Community College: 100 Reservoir Road, Village of Herkimer.

Madison County - Oneida Recreation Center: 217 Cedar Street, City of Oneida.

All three locations will be open this Monday and Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

According to City Councilor Helen Acker, more than half of those eligible in the City of Oneida have already applied. 215 homes and 42 businesses were affected by the flooding there.

The process requires you to fill out a form at one of the above locations. State employees will then review that information and answer any questions.

Following the initial application, New York State will review the forms and schedule an official inspection of the properties affected. Once a value of damage is determined, New York State will send a check to homeowners.

Beyond homeowners, business and farm owners were able to apply too.

The maximum award allowed for homes is $31,900 and the top level for businesses and farms is $50,000.

Application materials can be found at the NYS Flood Recovery Program website and the NYS Flood Helpline at 1-888-769-7243 is available to victims with questions.

Online applications can be submitted until August 30, but funding will be given at a first come, first served basis.
