Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - New York Lieutenant Governor Robert Duffy visited SUNY Oswego Tuesday to promote the Start-Up New York program.

The initiative allows certain new and expanding businesses to operate on college campuses, while avoiding state taxes for up to 10 years.

It was approved by lawmakers last week and Duffy says it has the potential to bring much-needed income to the Central New York economy.

"They are going to spend money in Oswego, Oswego County and the region. They are going to infuse the economy locally and it’s a win. It really shows the connection to higher education and business,” Duffy said.

Every business in the program has to create and maintain new jobs in order to participate.
