Man in critical condition after being struck by car in Ithaca

The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office says a man in is critical condition after being struck by a car while he was crossing a street in Ithaca on Thursday.

Ithaca (WSYR-TV) - The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office says a man in is critical condition after being struck by a car while he was crossing a street in Ithaca on Thursday.

While attempting to cross Ellis Hollow Road, deputies say the man was struck by a 2011 Nissan Altima traveling east near the East Hill Plaza Burger King at 5:28 p.m.

Emergency crews closed Ellis Hollow Road as they treated the man and set up a landing zone for a helicopter.

Ithaca Fire Department says two helicopters were called to the scene, but both declined to fly due to weather.

The man was transported to Upstate University Hospital by ambulance.

Deputies say the man is in critical condition and his identity has been withheld pending notification of his family.

The Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation and is asking anyone who witnessed the collision to call (607) 257-1345.
