Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - A traveler at Hancock Airport was detained Tuesday morning after a security screener x-raying his bag saw what appeared to be a grenade, but turned out to be a novelty replica.

Realistic replica weapons - including grenades - are not permitted in checked or carry-on baggage, according to Transportation Security Administration rules.

The TSA says the San Antonio, TX man, who was flying to Atlanta, was temporarily detained after the fake grenade was seen on the x-ray scan.

Once officers determined it was not real, the man was allowed to board his flight.

The TSA says travelers can be fined up to $11,000 if they are caught with prohibited items at the airport.

More information on what you can and can’t bring on a flight can be found on the TSA website.
