Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - The Fayetteville native crowned Miss New York in July was back in Syracuse on Wednesday as part of her tour leading up to Miss America.

Nina Davuluri will represent the Empire State on the stage in Atlantic City in September.

Davuluri will be there for two weeks prior to the big night for rehearsals, press events and preliminary contests.

She has been rehearsing her talent - Bollywood dancing – which will be the first time it has been performed as a talent for the Miss America Pageant.

Davuluri says she's proud to be the first Indian-American woman to be crowned Miss New York.

“For me to be a product of them, but also assimilate into the American culture and still hold on to my roots, values and traditions. It means the world to them and the community and to share that with others,” Davuluri said.

The Miss America Pageant can be seen on NewsChannel 9 on Sunday, September 15.
