New alert system designed to help victims of domestic violence

A new alert system is currently available in Central New York that is designed to protect victims of domestic violence.
Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – A new alert system is currently available in Central New York that is designed to protect victims of domestic violence.

The statewide automated victim information and notification system – known as the Statewide Automated Victim Information and Notification Network, or SAVIN system – instantly tells victims via text message, email, fax, or automated phone call when an order of protection has been served.

The notification will allow victims to take appropriate steps to protect themselves and their loved ones from further harm.

The state partnered with the Sheriff’s Association to make the system available in New York.

Individuals can also add others to the alerts, like friends, family, or advocates or attorneys.

New Yorkers can register by visiting the NY Alert site.

More information is available at the SAVIN-NY website.
