Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – The new trial date has been set for a Syracuse man previously convicted of murdering Sharon Nugent in 2008.

In 2008, James Guilford was convicted of killing the mother of his children.

Nugent’s body was never found.

He was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison.

Over the summer, the conviction was thrown out when the New York Court of Appeals determined that statements Guilford made following a 49-hour interrogation should not be included.

During the new trial, those statements will be suppressed.

The new trial is set to begin on Jan. 6.

In 2007, police found a hammer in Guilford’s possession that had Nugent’s blood on it.

In addition, police say a mattress covered in Nugent’s blood was found.
