Officials release identity of victim in Syracuse fire

Fire investigators have released the identity of a man who died during a minor fire on West Onondaga Street in Syracuse early Wedensday morning.

Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Fire investigators have released the identity of a man who died during a minor fire on West Onondaga Street in Syracuse early Wedensday morning.

They are still trying to determine how George Reed Jr., 54, died in the apartment.

The fire reported began around 12:45 a.m.

Officials said the fire was contained to one unit in the apartment building.

There is no visible damage to the outside of the building.

Investigators are still trying to determine what started the fire.

No one else was injured or involved in the fire, according to officials. There were earlier reports that a second person was injured.

The building's other occupants were able to get out safely. They were able to board a Centro bus and stay warm in the freezing cold weather until they could return home.
