Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested an Onondaga County couple for allegedly scamming businesses and contractors out of nearly half a million dollars in 2010.

Deputies say that in July of 2011, a Florida based business contacted the Sheriff’s Office to report that a $20,000 bad check was issued to their business by Jerry and Camille Arsenault.

The check was for bleachers that were delivered to the Diamond Dreams at Cooperstown Ball Park on US-20 in the Town of Warren.

After an investigation, deputies say the Arsenaults had done similar things with other businesses and contractors when they were building the Diamond Dreams at Cooperstown complex in 2010.

A total of 20 victims of the fraud were discovered during the two year investigation and the total owed by the Arsenaults is $491,237 according to deputies.

A warrant of arrest for the Arsenaults was obtained from the Town of Springfield Court in July 2013.

Law enforcement officials located the Arsenaults at a relative’s house in Camillus and they were taken into custody Wednesday morning.

The Arsenaults were arraigned in the Village of Cooperstown Court and taken to the Otsego County Correctional Facility on $250,000 cash bail or $500,000 bond.

If convicted, the Arsenaults face up to 15 years in prison.

Anyone who believes that they may have been scammed by the Arsenaults should call investigators at (607) 547-4363.
