Plane crashes at Cortland County Airport

The pilot was taken to a hospital for non life-threatening injuries. The FAA will take over the investigation.
Cortland (WSYR-TV) - The pilot of a small plane is okay after the plane crashed at the Cortland County Airport on Sunday afternoon.

Airport Manager Robert Buerkle told NewsChannel 9 the 55-year-old pilot "walked away" from the crash after the plane's landing gear collapsed .

The crash happened at 3:22 p.m.

The pilot had exited the plane before emergency crews arrived and he was taken to the Cortland Regional Medical Center for non life-threatening injuries.

The plane has been moved to a secure location as local investigators wait for FAA officials to arrive.

The FAA will take over the investigation.

The airport did not close because of the crash and air traffic was not affected.
