Police: Reverend in Western New York arrested on sex abuse charges, acts date back to 1974 and span 3 states

State Police have arrested a Western New York Reverend on sexual abuse charges.
Yates (WSYR-TV) - State Police have arrested a Western New York Reverend on sexual abuse charges.

70-year-old Rev. Roy Harriger Sr. of Middleport, who is currently the Reverend of Community Fellowship Church in the Niagara County town of Hartland, has been charged with:
  • Two counts of Course of Sexual Conduct, a class B Felony
  • Two counts of Incest, a class E Felony
  • Four counts of Sodomy in the 1st Degree, a class B Felony
Troopers say the alleged crimes occurred between September 2000 and September 2001 in the Town of Yates in Orleans County, when Harriger was the Reverend of the Wesleyan Church in Lyndonville, NY.

After an investigation, State Police say Harriger committed similar crimes in Michigan and Pennsylvania between 1974 and 2003.

New York State Troopers say they have referred the crimes that occurred in Michigan and Pennsylvania to the State Police agencies in those states.

Harriger was arraigned in the Town of Yates Court and remanded to the Orleans County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bail.

He is scheduled to return to court on Tuesday, Dec. 3.
