Rome (WSYR-TV) - A controversy has erupted involving two local charities.

The Syracuse Rescue Mission just opened a bottle and can redemption business in Downtown Rome.

But not everyone is happy about it.

The Rome Rescue Mission Executive Director is concerned that the Syracuse shop may take donations away from people in Rome.

"They're another mission that's a rescue mission, our philosophies are very similar. We would never go into competition with the people in the community just because we'd never want to see them hurt or damaged and for them to come in and just do that…For us, it's just not a good thing,” said Rome Rescue Mission Executive Director Matt Miller.

The Syracuse Rescue Mission Executive Director said that they welcome the opportunity to work with other chapters and it’s not their goal to take donations away from Rome.
