STAR registration Dec. 31 deadline approaching

Time is running out to re-register for the STAR property tax exemption. The deadline of Dec. 31 is fast approaching and if homeowners do not get their form in on time, they will not qualify.
Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - Time is running out to re-register for the STAR property tax exemption.

The deadline of Dec. 31 is fast approaching and if homeowners do not get their form in on time, they will not qualify.

The tax department is launching an online database, which will prevent homeowners from registering multiple properties.

This applies to basic STAR recipients only. Homeowners should have received a number of reminder letters in the mail about completing the online form.

If you need help with the form, tax officials are standing by this week at the State Office building in Syracuse.

Senior citizens receiving enhanced STAR are not affected.

For help signing up, you can visit the State Office building at 333 East Washington Street anytime between now and Friday, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

You can also receive assistance over the phone by calling (518) 457-2036.
