Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - The Christmas Bureau Distribution is less than three weeks away and the Salvation Army is still looking for more companies or groups to collect toys.

Every year, thanks to donations from the community, the Christmas Bureau Distribution allows parents who have fallen on hard times to pick out gifts for their children.

The Salvation Army says around 7,000 children will take home gifts from the Oncenter on Dec. 23.

“We know that Christmas bureau doesn't change poverty in this community but it gives families some relief during a time that's really important,” said Linda Wright with the Salvation Army.

Organizers say the toy drive is off to a slower start than normal because Thanksgiving was late in November this year.

Anyone interested in collecting toys for Christmas Bureau should call the Salvation Army at (315) 479-1321.
