‘Selfie’ named Oxford Dictionaries’ ‘Word of the Year’

Oxford Dictionaries has selected the popular phrase “selfie” as its “Word of the Year.”
Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Oxford Dictionaries has selected the popular phrase “selfie” as its “Word of the Year.”

According to the Oxford Dictionaries’ blog, the word’s use has “increased 17,000 percent” since this time last year.

The word refers to photos taken of oneself using a cellphone or tablet device and then uploaded to social media.

It was added to OxfordDictionaries.com in August 2013.
