Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office has released the identities of three officers involved in the shooting of a former Jamesville corrections officer in the Howlett Hill Road neighborhood.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Sgt. Stan Rahrle, 49, of Clay and Deputy Michael Poindexter, 29, of Constantia both followed 57-year-old Michael Sica into a garage at his parents’ home on Aitchison Road in the town of Onondaga on Tuesday evening.

Sica had pointed his gun at the head of a deputy – Daniel Butler, 31, of Geddes – who responded to a reported domestic incident at the home.

Butler fended Sica off and ran for cover before calling for backup.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Rahrle and Poindexter encountered Sica sitting in a chair when they entered the garage.

They say Sica raised his gun and pointed it at the deputies, who then fired on the seated man.

Emergency personnel declared Sica dead when they arrived on the scene.

The Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.
