Statewide program prepares teens for future in law enforcement

Teens from all over the state got hands-on training in police work through the Police Explorers program on Saturday.
Solvay (WSYR-TV) -- Teens from all over the state get hands-on training in police work through the Police Explorers program.

Students learned about everything from how to handle hostage situations to dealing with drunk drivers. The hands-on training is a way to prepare them for a future in law enforcement.

"It lets them learn about police work without actually going out in the field so they know what its going to be like if they decide to become a police officer," said Scott Griffo of the Solvay Police Department.

The program started back in 1996 for people ages 13 to 21.
