Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- In the wake of Hurricane Sandy, we’ve seen Central New York’s generosity. Countless donation drives have collected thousands of clothing and food items to help fellow New Yorkers get back on their feet.

Now, a Syracuse restaurant is cooking up their own way of giving back.

Laci’s Tapas Bar says the overwhelming support has been piling up. The pop-up kitchen is headed for Rockaway Queens – the home of many first responders.

“We totally believe in giving back because we have been given so much. We’re so blessed, so that’s just one way we can give back,” said Cindy Seymour, with Laci’s Tapas Bar and Restaurant.

Not just food is being collected; blankets, personal items, diapers and more are all being packed into a truck, which will leave early Tuesday morning.

They’ll also deliver peace of mind for some families who want to make sure their loved ones downstate are okay.

“If they have family or someone in the area, we’ll make sure they get a hot meal, anything they need – a hug, cup of soup, anything they need we will make sure they get it,” Seymour said.

Seymour also says this will likely be the first of a few trips to the city until our New York neighbors get back on their feet.
