Tax help has arrived for Central New Yorkers

Tax season has arrived and there are local organizations that helping low-income residents receive the largest refund possible by obtaining all eligible tax credits.
DeWitt (WSYR-TV) - Tax season has arrived and there are local organizations that helping low-income residents receive the largest refund possible by obtaining all eligible tax credits.

One place people can go for help is ShoppingTown Mall in DeWitt, where the Free Tax Program has set up shop in the Sears wing. Staff will be on hand until mid-April.

To qualify, one’s household income for 2012 must be $50,270 or less. Participants also must reside in Onondaga County.

The program is closed to those who own rental property, but people can qualify if they are self employed and do not deduct their home as an expense.

Similar programs run by the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program can be found throughout Central New York.

Volunteers participate in an IRS training program to offer tax help to low-income families and the elderly.
