Time Warner Cable modem fee prompts class-action lawsuits

Time Warner Cable is facing two class-action lawsuits involving its new cable modem fee, according to a report in the New York Daily News.
Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- Time Warner Cable is facing two class-action lawsuits involving a new fee, according to a report in the New York Daily News.

Back on November 1, Time Warner’s high speed Internet users were being asked to pay about $4 per month to rent a cable modem.

According to the Daily News, customers are arguing that the fee is illegal because it’s not included in existing customer agreements and the company did not give the required 30 day notice.

The lawsuits are asking the courts to impose an injunction to block the company from imposing the fee.

Time Warner did advise that you could buy your own modem, as long as it was approved. They have not yet released any comment on the lawsuit.
