Syracuse (WSYR-TV/ABC News) - The rankings are out, and it’s a designation most states wouldn’t be proud of; the top 10 states for smoking.

Health.com released the list, which used government data to configure the rankings.

Alabama came in a number one and also had the highest rate of youth smoking, with 23 percent of high school students saying they smoke, according to the CDC.

It is followed by Arkansas, where 27 percent of people smoke, in comparison to the 20 percent nationwide.

Kentucky came in third place, followed by Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee and West Virginia.
