WCNY-TV cancels 'Reith' show

WCNY-TV, Central New York’s public broadcasting company, announced Wednesday that it will replace its daily “Reith” show featuring longtime Syracuse radio host Jim Reith.
Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- WCNY-TV, Central New York’s public broadcasting company, announced Wednesday that it will replace its daily “Reith” show featuring longtime Syracuse radio host Jim Reith.

The broadcasting company plans to replace the show with a new daily public affairs show, beginning sometime in 2013.

WCNY President and CEO Robert J. Daino says the “Reith” show hoped to engage viewers on important issues of the day, but in the end became more of a challenge moving Reith’s brand to television.

“We judge our shows on viewer response, the financial support of our underwriters, and our mission to engage new voices and spur public conversation,” Daino said in a written release.

Reith's long-time radio show was dropped in October of 2011 by WSYR radio. WCNY-TV brought the program to television earlier this year.

The last "Reith" TV show aired Tuesday.

Until the launch of it's new public affairs show in 2013, WCNY will replace "Reith" with "PBS’s Nightly Business Report."
