The boy who shot a cell phone video showing kids on a Rochester-area school bus threatening and bullying a bus monitor blames peer pressure and regrets taking part.
Greece, NY (WSYR-TV/WHAM-TV) – The boy who shot a cell phone video showing kids on a Rochester-area school bus threatening and bullying a bus monitor blames peer pressure and regrets taking part.

“I feel bad about it. They were making fun of her and everything,” said Luis Recio, the boy who shot the video.

Luis’ mother Lucil Tejeda said, “I feel sorry for everybody. I feel very bad.”

The video of Greece Athena Middle School students ended up on Facebook and YouTube and began to spread virally.

The school district identified the woman as Karen Klein, who has worked there for 20 years and became a bus monitor about two years ago.

Klien spoke with NewsChannel 9’s sister station 13WHAM in Rochester. Klein said the comment that hurt the most was when the kids said "you're so ugly your kid should kill themselves." Her son took his life 10 years ago. (See more of what Karen Klein had to say.)

In the video, students taunt Klein about her weight. The students also talk about threatening to go to Klein’s house and steal from her.

It’s unclear when the incident happened.

Police in the town west of Rochester are questioning four students and deciding if charges will be filed in juvenile court.

Greece Central School District spokeswoman Laurel Heiden said the district’s bullying response and prevention team was activated and all students involved will face disciplinary action. The district will also question the bus driver.

The school district has asked YouTube to take down the video.
