Madison County Sheriff's Office warning farmers about thieves

CAZENOVIA, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - The Madison County Sheriff’s Office is warning farmers about at least two people who have been stealing money from farm stands in the Cazenovia area.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, a white woman walking with a crutch and a white man with long braided hair have been stopping by farm stands in the area and pretending to place money in money jars, and then taking money out.

They say the pair is traveling in a white SUV.

In addition to the farm stand thefts, they believe a couple of the same description stole from a parked vehicle in the area.

“While the tradition of using the honor system is, luckily, still a business option here in Madison County, those with farm stands should consider a trail camera in the immediate vicinity.  They can be purchased at a very reasonable price from numerous local and online retailers and can discourage this type of behavior,” said Undersheriff John Ball.

If you have information pertaining to these crimes, please contact the Madison County Sheriff’s Office at 315-366-2311.  If you see the individuals committing a crime please call 911 immediately.
