Milder Tuesday before cold returns

Seasonable through Tuesday

SYRACUSE (WSYR-TV) - - Mostly cloudy with a spotty rain/snow shower possible late tonight.
- A passing rain/snow shower with some sun appearing Tuesday.
- Arctic cold front passes through Tuesday night with some snow showers.
- A January feel for Wednesday with a gusty wind and scattered snow showers.
- Sunny with a more tolerable chill Thursday
- Unsettled Friday into weekend.

A mainly quiet and seasonable Tuesday on tap

After a mainly quiet Monday night, a weak surface trough will slide through Tuesday and possibly set off a passing rain/snow shower or two. Some sun will also develop with a bit of a breeze and highs close to 45 Tuesday afternoon.

Another cold, winter blast:

Tuesday night an arctic cold front will blow through with some flurries and squalls and behind the front it will turn windy and much colder by Wednesday.

There will likely be a spray of lake effect snow showers around late Tuesday night into Wednesday with nothing more than a coating to an inch or two expected.  Lake snow showers end Wednesday afternoon as drier moves in.

Easing out of the cold late this week:

High pressure will settle in Wednesday night into Thursday providing us with a frigid start to Thursday. The combination of abundant late March sun and highs well into the 30s will make it feel quite tolerable by Thursday afternoon.

A warm front will slide in Friday producing clouds and some rain showers that may begin as a little snow/mix in spots. Temperatures should be more seasonable Friday.

Front position will dictate weekend weather

The warm front trying to get through here Friday will likely be close to central New York through the weekend. What does that mean for you and I here in central New York?

If the front is over central New York this weekend we will see a good amount of rain with temperatures in the 40s. If the front is to the north of us we will see some rain at times and temperatures in the 50s. Lastly, if the front is positioned to the south of us we will feel highs in the 30s and a wintry mix and/or snow. Bottom line, there’s a lot of uncertainty regarding the weekend weather so be sure to stay tuned for updates throughout the week.
