Moe. to headline SAMMYs

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - One of the nation’s most popular jam bands, moe., will headline the 2017 Syracuse Area Music Awards.

The announcement was made this morning at the Palace Theatre, which will host the SAMMY Awards on Friday, March 3.

Moe. was formed at the University of Buffalo, but most of the band’s members grew up in the Mohawk Valley.

The band also leads this year’s new class of honorees in the SAMMY Hall of Fame, along with girls band pioneer Meegan Voss of “The Verbs”; the early Seventies band Jukin’ Bone; and singer-songwriter Paul Case.

They will all be inducted Thursday, March 2 at a reception Upstairs at the Dinosaur.

Other honorees include Lifetime Achievement recipient Vincent Falcone, who worked as music director for Frank Sinatra, and Educators of the Year Anthony and Patricia DeAngelis.  Anthony DeAngelis was the longtime music teacher at Lyncourt Junior High School.
