Money in Your Pocket: Are you a good tipper?

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - Creditcard.com recently conducted a survey to find out how much people are tipping and who the best tippers are.

They define a good tipper as a person who tips the median gratuity of 20% or more.

Median means half tip less and half tip more.

The group that is the best tippers? Republican men in the Northeast.  Also some baby boomers tip 20% or more.

You’re more likely to tip if you use a credit or debit card.  This doesn’t surprise financial adviser Rick Reagan, who says it’s easier to fill out something on a credit card slip versus forking over cash.

Women in general tend to tip at a median rate of 16%.

Southerners tip the least at 15%.

The average gratuity has moved up from 15% to 18% in restaurants nationally.
