Mother of Kevin Ward Jr. tells national outlet she ‘felt forced' to settle with Stewart

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - The mother of Kevin Ward Jr. says they “felt forced” to settle with Tony Stewart after they failed to find a new law firm to take over their suit, according to USA Today.

The Ward family settled last week after suing Tony Stewart in connection with their son’s death during a race at Canandaigua Motorsports Park in 2014.

The family told USA Today that the three-time NASCAR champion wanted to settle, and the lawyers representing the Wards “threatened to quit the case” unless they declined to take the deal.

Pamela Ward told the national publication that “we felt like we were being forced to settle.”

She says the family tried to find new representation before settling, but determined that they couldn’t afford it.

According to USA Today, Pamela Ward told the judge she wanted a trial during their court appearance in Utica last week.

The terms of the settlement were never disclosed.
